Oceania Sprint Championships 2026
&
Sprint The Coast

24-26 January 2026
Central Coast NSW

What a weekend! Full of fast action from our elite orienteers!

An early start on Saturday morning at St Peter’s Catholic College saw the first stage of the Oceania Knock Out Qualification race. The top 36 men and 36 women made it to the next race- the Quarter Final – with a run through the arena excitement abounded with excellent commentary from Grant Bluett and Julian Dent.

The top 3 from each QF race made it through to the 3 Semi Finals at Green Point Christian College. Another exciting call was spectator friendly with great viewing across the oval.

We had a number of non Oceania competitors in those races. Good Runners from USA, Norway, Sweden, Hong Kong, and Great Britain made it necessary to run a B final.

The Knock Out finals saw the 6 best Oceania competitors fight it out. New Zealander Joseph Lynch took out the gold medal in the men and Australian Nea Shingler the gold in the women both securing an automatic selection for the sprint championship in Genoa Italy in July 2026.

Knock Out Sprint Championships – Final Results

The Individual Sprint was at Central Coast Grammar School. A very hot afternoon saw the spectators wilting but still keen to watch the elites battle for Gold.

Our local girl Erica Enderby from Newcastle took out the women’s class giving her automatic selection to the World Sprint Championship. Joseph Lynch from New Zealand taking gold again in the men’s class.

Monday saw the Sprint Relay at Uni of Newcastle/TAFE at Ourimbah campus. A cooler day promised some fast running. Australia was not disappointed winning the 4 person mixed relay followed by New Zealand.

The spectators were also able to compete in the Central Coast Orienteers inaugural Sprint The Coast competition running on the same maps, they got to experience the same terrain and similar courses as the Oceania competitors. Cash first prize to those who survived the 4 races in the fastest times. Congratulations to all the winners.

Sprint the Coast Overall Results

Central Coast Orienteers hope everyone had a great weekend- not too much, but just enough orienteering to also enjoy the beaches, restaurants and beautiful landscapes this area has to offer.

Welcome to the Central Coast of NSW. A tourist mecca with many beautiful beaches to visit and bountiful nature from Boudii National Park to Fraser Park in the North.

We are promising a smorgasbord of sprint maps most of which have not been used before.
